I had tried the pastries only, I went there for lunch. I’m really fed up with Taiwanese and Chinese food now, and my dream would be to eat a real good steak/lamb or even better: a tartare and not meat in small pieces. Well, i wanted something nice and healthy, and i picked a salmon salad.
Croutons, fresh salmon, parmesan, parsley, salad, cherry tomatoes and a sauce. The salmon was the best i’ve ever had, so tasty. I’m not a huge fan of this kind of sauce with salads, but the ingredients inside were really good so it conterbalanced it. Just the price was the hardest thing to digest: 540NTD.
As a dessert, i chose the homemade ice-creams. You can choose whatever you want and the topping you want. One scoop is 90 NTD and the topping is 20NTD for each, except the homemade chantilly which is 40NTD. I chose coffee and hazelnut ice-cream, the chantilly, meringue and roasted hazelnuts.
The hazelnut was nice but my fav was of course the coffee one. A real and strong coffee flavor. Just maybe it was a little too liquid. The meringue was crispy just nicely but a little too sweet after the coffee (but that’s my fault for not picking the right topping). However, i really had a problem with the hazelnuts. They tasted like flowers and i don’t like them. And it doesn’t look like hazelnuts at all to me. So either way they gave me flowers and not hazelnuts, or they really gave me hazelnuts but i’m so stupid i can’t recognize them and they are roasted in a special way. But this one was not good to me. As for the chantilly, the vanilla flavor was nice but i would have prefered a little heavier one so that it would not melt too quickly and disapear.
Another strange product we can’t find in France, the Pancake ice cream, but beware: “Made in Taiwan”. Ohoho. That’s the real thing. Basically, it’ just two pancakes that are totally soak because of the ice cream with in the middle a flavorless ice cream (go for the vanilla/milk industrial ice cream). Everything is soft because of course defrosten pancakes are pretty bad. There’s always those strange things with ice cream in Asia. I remember a few years ago when i want in Japan, they also had ice cream in a king of a heart-shape meringue. Good and creative ideas but still i think that a really good ice cream speaks for itself.
I don’t know how many westerners can say they have ever tried to eat cactus, but my friends and i did. It’s a delicacy of Penghu island. You don’t eat the whole thing, don’t worry, but only the part that will turn into a flower. In Chinese it’s called 仙人掌 (xianrenzhang). You can have several desserts with this cactus fruit.
I tried the ice-cream, the granita and the pie. My favorite goes for the ice-cream, even though it would have been even better if the taste was a little stronger. Then the cactus pie was also nice but a little too jelly-like (it’s nearly like a mochi). Finally the granita was tasteless.
Another weird thing invented by Asians, the sandwich ice-cream. The biscuit is salty, and the ice-cream is really creamy with a little of vanilla. Ok but not fantastic.
Swiss Ice-cream. A Swiss friend told me they were really good, and that’s no joke! Why eat ice-cream in winter? Well, i was in marcel and skirt, and i was too hot, even if it was 10pm. Yeah, we don’t have winter here (actually it depends on the day, and the hours), so you can enjoy ice-cream all year long!
I chose a 2 scoops one with coffee and white chocolate. You really have a strong coffee taste like i miss so much here. Delicious. While the white chocolate one is sweet, maybe a little too sweet for me, but i loved the fact that you really eat white chocolate (there’re small pieces in the ice-cream). And then, to go i took a tiramisu ice-cream which was nice but didn’t taste coffee as much as i would have liked. It was more like a cream. Even though it didn’t taste like tiramisu, it was nice.
I think Movenpick is going to be my favorite ice-cream brand here. But i also love Taiwanese shaved-ice with fresh fruits, so…
Count 130TWD for 1 scoop, 190TWD for 2 scoops and 135TWD for a small pack.

Yogourt ice-cream is pretty popular in Taiwan. Here is another brand, Hielo, which proposes 0% fat yogourt ice-creams. What is great is that you have the choice between a waffle ice-cream and a cupcake one. I chose the cupcake one, which a lot of fruits (called Kate). You can also make your own ice-cream if you prefer. I prefer this one to Yogourt, the ice-cream taste less like yogourt.
Count around 150 TWD for one cupcake hielo.

I tried a new ice-cream concept (at least new for Paris), where you can choose your ice-cream between 6 flavors, and then put whatever you want with it. There are indeed small boxes where you can select fruits, dried fruits, cookies, chocolate…. and then you pay according to the weight. I think it’s quite expensive for the thing, compared to shaved ice, and that’s not better. The yogurt ice-cream really taste like yogurt, so i was a bit surprised and disappointed.
However, the concept of making your own ice-cream is really good, so i’ll keep it in mind.
