Danshui Iron Eggs 鐵蛋

25 Sep

Another thing i tried there was Iron eggs. That’s really small black eggs. In fact, that’s white eggs that were stewed and left some days in a pot. As for the color i don’t really know. It tastes like a stewed egg, however it’s a little more soggy and salty.

Danshui special dish: Ah-Gei 阿給

25 Sep

If you go to Danshui, of course you have to try this. You can find it everywhere in the night market, and that’s really delicious. Don’t focus on the weird appareance. Ah-Gei is Tofu filled with crystal noodles (the vermicelli noodles) and the whole is put in a spicy sauce. On night markets, you find them without the spicy sauce so at first i didn’t recognize the dish.

It’s quite hard to eat, because you first need to pierce/open the tofu (and with chopsticks that’s not the easiest thing on Earth) and then to mix the sauce with tofu and noodles to eat. But that’s really worth it.

Taiwanese dessert: Douhua 豆花

25 Sep

Some Taiwanese friends shew us the way to try a typical dessert. I was quite scared actually with my past experiences with Taiwanese desserts, but this one was ok. This is called Douhua, it’s a soup with some kind of paste which is actually the same thing as tofu but less solid (that’s what i understood). The flavors are mainly with beans (red beans, green beans, tapioca, peanuts…). You can ask for/without ice.

It’s jelly-like and it’s a soup again, but the flavors were a little better, and even if it’s still quite sweet, it’s better than the desserts i’ve tried so far. I might eat it again once or twice in the year.
