Japanese Hokkaido Milk Bread

2 Dec

Talking about bread, i’ve always wented to try the Japanese Milk Bread. I’ve seen this bread on many blogs, and i was wondering how it tasted like. Well, that’s only a mix between a plain loaf and a bun. Maybe it’s softer, but the taste is pretty much the same. Or maybe that’s not a good enough bakery, i don’t know. But i was quite disappointed.

Vegetable fried bread

2 Dec

It’s a mix between a dumpling and a “bao”, because that’s a fried bao, but with a thiner dough. It’s really nice, and only 12 TWD for one. You can choose between meat, green vegetables or cabbage.

You have a lot of small shops selling it around Taipei Main Station.

Lalos 4

Another bread. Yeah, i’ll try them all since i’ve time.

Provence Herb Ciabatta is really nice. You really smell it, and it’s even better with some olive oil on it. One of my favorite with the nut one.

Bacon bread is ok, but that’s not my favorite. There isn’t enough bacon to make it taste the all bread, so it’s a light taste. On the one hand that’s nice if you want to eat it with something else, on the other hand if you eat it alone, the taste isn’t strong enough. I’m not really used to bacon bread anyway, but that’s not my favorite.

Lalos 3

Another try!

I wanted to try some other breads, but i usually want to eat special bread with a specific dish. Olive ciabatta had to go with Olive oil Tomato-Mozzarella dish. I can’t easily find ciabatta in bakeries in France so i don’t know much about this bread. It’s quite soft, but delicious with olive oil.

The nut bread had to go with goat cheese. The outside is crispy as it should be, and you have a nice flavor of nuts. I loved it. It’s better than the honey bread. I’m really glad to have found this bakery.

The marbré cake was a little too heavy for me. It’s better to buy it slice by slice, it’s lighter and less dry. Not the best cake ever. Lalos is definetely for bread and not desserts.

Lalos 2

13 Nov

Again i went to Lalos shop. I needed some bread for Foie Gras, so i took 2: the Longuet and honey bread. With this, i tried the plain biscuit and a flan.

The Longuet is really good alone in fact. It’s too strong to go with Foie Gras, but i loved its aroma. Crispy as it should be. Yum Yum. Better than the one i usually buy in Paris.

The Honey Bread. Also really nice and goes well with the Foie Gras. The honey flavor isn’t too strong and sweet, so it just gives a little touch to the bread. Also really good, but i prefer the Longuet for everyday meals.

Biscuit. Hum, it seems that Lalos isn’t good at baking biscuit. The Palet breton wasn’t that good last time, and this plain sablé was really not interesting at all. I forced myself to finish it. Not good, it doesn’t have any taste.

The Flan. Nice one, the pastry was a little hard which was great, but i prefer flan a little less cooked. But i had trouble to ask for it. I mean, it was written “flan” at the counter, so i said it normally, but the women made me repeat 3 times and then she pointed at an “éclair”. Huuum, yeah, that’s nearly that… ^^” that’s nice to show off how frenchy the bakery is and use a lot of French terms, but if it crumbles down at the first word you pronounce for a cake, i don’t see the point of doing it. Just to say (yeah yeah, i love to criticize again, i know).

Banana cake

20 Oct

A banana cake i tried at the best of the two bakeries near NCCU. A little problem concerning the baking, but this was quite good. Since banana is cheap here (the cheapest fruit actually with clementines), there are a lot of Banana cakes.

Bacon & Cheese Garlic Bread

7 Oct

I tried a different garlic bread since this one was small.

Bacon, and cheese. Not the cheese we usually have, but the american one, in slices for their hamburgers. I didn’t expect cheese inside, but well, i’m starting to get used to being surprised with Taiwanese food.

I prefer the bread of the simple garlic bread, because it is bread (even if it’s with butter), while here it’s between bread and bun again. However the bacon is ok. Another strage fact is the “skin” of the bread that is sweet exactly like a rich shortcrust pastry…
