Last time i went to Yen bar on the top floor of the W hotel (with the waitress in mini black dress and high heels), this time i went to woobar, which does a lounge bar, afternoon tea, lunch…
The menu is only in English, so some Taiwanese may have a problem with that (but then if you’re a foreigner that’s perfect for you).
I asked for a White Russian: vodka, Kahlua and cream, which is perfect for a coffee and cream lover like me. It’s really nice! Loved it. However i’m not really fond of the place, too dark and the music is too loud. Just like the Yen bar, it’s nice if you want to go to party after or if you’re trying to seduce a girl/boy in the puffy pillows. Liked the drinks though. And you have a view on the outdoor swimming pool which is quite nice.
A thing also to notice is that even though both W and Le Méridien belong to the same company, their guests are totally different. Le Méridien is more for families, business men and it’s pretty calm, while in W you have a lot more foreigners, young, fashionable, like to show-off and daring people. As a worker i definitely prefer Le Méridien and as a guest…it just depends the event. But for a room, as when i travel i want a quiet place, i would not choose W.

That day I got quite lucky. I was offered a Fresh Mango Frappé from Le Méridien. It’s pretty nice, just a wee bit too sweet for me. Easily made with mago purée, mango juice, mago syrup, ice, fresh mango and a hint of mint for the freshness. Actually i think the mint makes it good and increase the flavors.
I tried a peanut milk tea, just to have a change and because i was curious. Sometimes i really feel like i shouldn’t be curious at all. It had a bad taste coming out of the tea, the milk is not even fresh milk but powder milk, and it has a bland taste of peanuts. I won’t try again.
I had to try in the end some of his products. As you know, i’m not fond of chocolate (i don’t say no to a piece or two of chocolate, but in desserts that’s not what i prefer), so i picked the milk chocolate with salted butter caramel and a hot chocolate powder.
The chocolate was really nice, not too sweet as it’s often is with caramel. Nothing to say except that’s really good.
However, concerning the chocolate powder, i’ve several things to say. I know that his shop was elected as the best hot chocolate in Paris. Actually i wanted to drink one but the room was already full, that’s why i ended up buying the powder.
But the powder comes without any information about how to make the hot chocolate. So i made one as i could, and i was really disappointed in terms of flavor, texture. I really prefered Angelina cocoa powder which at least gives you the recipe about how to make your hot chocolate. This one i think didn’t have enough chocolate but then it was too bitter for me who’s not fond of dark chocolate.
So far, my favorite ever hot chocolate was the rich one from Café Pouchkine. And just to let you know, prices are 1,5 time more expensive here than in France.

So far my favorite lounge in Taipei is on the 38th floor of the Shangri-La hotel. There is an amazing view on Taipei 101, the cocktails are good and with a lot of flavors i like (i would like to try them all in one night but well, that would be quite bad). I’ve been there 5 or 6 times so far, and it’s pretty nice. The only thing is that it’s a little too dark at night, but that’s better for the view. It’s nice to go there to see the sunset before going to a restaurant or at night before going to a night club, even though for the nightclub, the W bar has a better vibe. It all depends if you want to cool down and stay in a cozy environment, or if you want to get excited and in a more fashionable place. I personally prefer the Marco Polo for the first option.
Just the elevator of the W hotel makes me sick, and the waitresses there look kinda…. too sexy? i would say. I also saw that a W just opened in Paris.
On wednesday i tried a vanilla espresso and yesterday i went for a “apricot mango”. I’ve also tried the Dr. Evil and Bird of Paradise. I love cocktail names, it’s always so beautiful.
Before taking the plane, i went to a coffee shop that is pretty famous over here and sells coffee: Mr Brown. You can easily find coffee cans everywhere from convenient stores to restaurants. I tried the macadamia nuts coffee latte, and i loved the latte art. The flavor is also nice, better than starbucks i think. I didn’t try their real espresso which is the real way to know if a coffee is good to me, but this one was nice and it’s an original flavor.
They call it a “Fondant au chocolat”, but actually that’s a mistake, this cake is a “Coulant au chocolat”. A coulant has a melting heart, while a fondant is just a chocolate cake. So i call it as it should be called: a coulant.
Now, who’s “they”? …Shame on me, it’s Starbucks.
The cake is average, but definetely doesn’t look like a “coulant”. Just by looking at the color of the cake you can see that’s not a home-made! I don’t know why they use a such dark color, while chcolate is never that black. Not really good, not bad neither. That’s something you will take if you want something sweet, but not something you will really enjoy. But that’s what Starbucks is anyway, so it fits their brand image. However their coffees that are quite bad (frappucinos being the exception).
