Midnight in Paris…makes me think about the movie.
Anyway, talking about those “9 infinite delights”, they should give me back my money for liying. 9 macarons, yeah, but what kind of macarons is that, i wonder.
First, the shells were not nice: air bubbles, some undo themselves when you hold the macaron, they don’t all have the same size (a shame) and they’re empty. Then inside?
Vanilla was a way too sweet, some of the other were too dry. Just one or two were ok, but nothing exceptional.
As fot the white chocolate mendiant, i thought the dried apricot flavor was too strong, and the chocolate a little too sweet, which ends up being like bad pepper flavor (not spicy but not a good taste, i can’t really explain what it is. It’s only with his white chocolate that i have the feeling that it is as if it was mixed with black pepper…I really don’t understand).
So far, what i have tried from this shop is not that good. I don’t think i will go back again.
In Shida area, you have a lot of small restaurants, and we decided to go there to eat a pizza. The restaurant is nice, with modern and colorful paintings on the walls, and a wide window let the light enters. You have quite a lot of choices in term of pizza, from vegetarian to meat-lover ones, cream or tomatoe sauce…
I picked the spinach, ricotta and caramelized onions pizza. The dough was thin and crispy the spinach was good. Overall, it’s one of the best pizza i’ve ever eaten so far, the bad point is that there wasn’t enough ricotta and maybe too much oil. However the size is perfect: not too big so that you don’t feel too heavy, and not too small. I can only recommand this one.
My friends also liked it, and with an unbeatable price range of 180- 250NTD, you can definetely run there.
I’ve been there twice now, and it’s one of the foreign students’ favorite places. Jim’s burger is one of the few to provide salads, sandwiches, hamburgers, pancakes, toasts and bagels for a price under 100NTD. So of course all the girls run there when the university bell rings to have a chance to get a seat. Last time i tried there salad, which was nice with cheese, salad, pasta, tacos, olives, chicken, tuna or beef depending what you order. The only bad point is their sauce which is sweet and that i don’t really like, and which you can’t ask to be removed.
This time i tried a chicken-egg bagel, which was actually a chicken omelette bagel. The chicken was to totally cooked. I also discovered that i wasn’t really fond of bagels (i had never eaten any before). It was nice to try anyway. So if you crave for foreign food and well-balanced one, you definetely have to go there!
Maybe Taiwan has started to influence me, because i eat rice everyday nowadays, in my soup. Rice soup is often eaten when you’re sick or for breakfast, but I prepare my own for diner. I don’t really like the Asian version because I find it too bland, so I use the same principle to make a different one. It’s simple and convenient for students, you just need the micro-waves and 8mn!
– 1 asian instant soup of your choice (they’re creamier than the western soup and don’t have the ame flavors)
– 3 table soups of rice
– Tofu, mushrooms….whatever you want
– Spices if you want: I use curry if it can go with the instant soup
Put your rice, soup powder and all the other things you want to add in you soup. Add enough water to cover everything, mix and put 8mn in the micro-waves. Ready!
You can put whatever you want in your soup, so it’s always different.
Bamboo or the Matcha Tea Opéra.
You first smell the matcha tea and then the chocolate. Well-balanced, you can find all the texture, from the slightly crispy thin chocolate layer to the tea mousse to the tea powder and biscuit. I think this one is one of the best-made pastries i have ever seen and also a really beautiful one.
So what’s the problem?… I don’t like Matcha tea. So i recognize that this is a really nice one, but since i don’t like the flavor in itself, i won’t take it again.
Coffee and walnuts, it’s more famous than the bamboo pastry. However i was quite disappointed by the coffee mousse that was too sweet for me compared to a coffee cream. And i don’t know if it’s me or if it’s really like this but i thought that the coffee tasted like the Taiwanese coffee taste they use in their pastries and bread, which is sweeter and has a strong taste of coffee but doesn’t actually taste like drinking coffee. As for the walnuts, it’s really not convenient to eat the pastry since you can’t cut it because of them. The little biscuits on the top don’t bring anything special. Not really good because of the coffee mousse, but the mixture of coffee and walnuts was nice.
The vanilla-almond diamants. Just loved them, the vanilla flavor was here, it was crispy not too sweet.
My favorite pastry shop released its Easter chocolates and my parents just sent me one. It’s an milk and white chocolate avocado. Sad to say it, but the chocolate isn’t really good. You have bubbles in the chocolate= problems with air during the making process, and the flavor isn’t really strong. But what is nice is that they really work on the appearance of the avocado and you can even see the brush strokes on the chocolate and that the chocolate itself isn’t too sweet asome chocolatiers tend to make milk and white chocolate. That’s where you can see that’s handmade. Not really good, but nice piece of work. I have to add that my chocolate traveled during 1 week through plane so i thing with the temperature and pressure differences it must have altered the taste.
I just finally got a picture since i made them! That’s only the 4th time that i have pasta since September! First time of my life that i so few pasta. I was so in lack so i bought everything to made them again (which is really expensive here because of the cheese and the meat). I just added an onion and an herb that tastes like liquorice but that looks like big basilica leaves (which i first mistook with basilica). I don’t know what it was since it’s written in chinese…
